In 2011, it was estimated that nearly 1.6 million people would be diagnosed with cancer, and more than 570,000 would die of the disease.
With an epidemic such as this, virtually every safe preventive strategy available deserves attention.
But when a simple, and virtually free, strategy emerges that shows promise in reducing rates of not one, not two, but potentially dozens of different types of cancer, it needs to be shouted from the rooftops.
So open your ears — such a strategy does exist: Sun Exposure and Vitamin D!
Sunlight Protects Against Cancer by Stimulating the Production of Vitamin D
New research just in confirms that if you want to slash your risk of cancer, it’s essential that you spend adequate time in the sun or a safe tanning bed, or at the very least supplement with proper amounts of vitamin D3.
Specifically, researchers found that, consistently, the higher the solar UVB, the lower the incidence of 15 different types of cancer, including: [continue]….

Something you’re eating may be killing you, and you probably don’t even know it!
If you eat cheeseburgers or French fries all the time or drink six sodas a day, you likely know you are shortening your life. But eating a nice dark, crunchy slice of whole wheat bread–how could that be bad for you?
Well, bread contains gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, rye, spelt, kamut, and oats. It is hidden in pizza, pasta, bread, wraps, rolls, and most processed foods. Clearly, gluten is a staple of the American diet.
What most people don’t know is that gluten can cause serious health complications for many. You may be at risk even if you don’t have full blown celiac disease.
In today’s blog I want to reveal the truth about gluten, explain the dangers, and provide you with a simple system that will help you determine whether or not gluten is a problem for you.
A recent large study in the Journal of the American Medical Association found that people with diagnosed, undiagnosed, and “latent” celiac disease or gluten sensitivity had a higher risk of death, mostly from heart disease and cancer. (i)
This study looked at almost 30,00 patients from 1969 to 2008 and examined deaths in three groups: Those with full-blown celiac disease, those with inflammation of their intestine but not full-blown celiac disease, and those with latent celiac disease or gluten sensitivity (elevated gluten antibodies but negative intestinal biopsy).
The findings were dramatic. There was a [continue]…

There are a series of Wiki Leaks films, recently leaked, included on this one about the amazing Cannabis Cure for Cancer!!
Now that the word is out, expect FDA and Big PHARMA suppression!!
And, from Carl J. Romanelli:
What is remarkable about cannabis is that it serves different afflictions by various methods of intake. In other words, for some benefits medically like stomach distress, eye strain, weight gain; inhaled cannabis is better.
For most cancers ingestion is the best method, however skin cancer is also treated with a topical ointment.
Regardless, cannabis in the body aids and reproduces healthy cells while destroying unhealthy ones. Beyond all of this is the fact that we can make over 50,000 consumer products from this plant that grows without any chemicals, all over the world. Imagine, paper from hemp instead of trees.
Plastic that biodegrades and does not poison the food it holds. Jeans and tee shirts that are not reliant on cotton. Over 50% of all herbicides and pesticides in American agriculture are used on cotton, and it is a fussy crop that grows in limited areas.
Finally, we must not lose sight of the civil rights violation of criminalizing non-violent people for partaking of a non-toxic, aromatic herb.

John Updike, in his short story “Plumbing,” summarized human nature thusly: “We think we are what we think and see when in truth we are upright bags of tripe.”
This is a tragic fact that we spend most our lives trying to forget. Although we like to imagine ourselves as the driver – our consciousness is in full control – that belief is a lovely illusion. In reality, we are mere passengers aboard the body, strapped to a fleshy engine that is driving us.
Consider the orexin system. Secreted by a small cluster of neurons in the hypothalamus, orexin is a neuropeptide that regulates an astonishing array of mental properties, from sleepiness to hunger.
People with chronically low levels of orexin suffer from narcolepsy and obesity; many also have cataplexy, which occurs when the experience of strong emotions triggers a sudden weakening of skeletal muscles. (Laughter makes them go limp.)
Studies have shown that injecting mice with orexin increases metabolism, largely because it makes the animals more active. The reverse is also true: low levels of orexin make people feel rundown and tired.
This helps explain the mechanics of sleep deprivation, as keeping monkeys awake for extended periods all but silences their orexin cells. (However, studies show that the exhaustion can be quickly cured with an injection of the peptide.)
In many respects, orexin acts like an internal gas pedal, as even slight twitches in the system can dramatically shift levels of activity.
The reason the orexin system is so important is that it links the needs of the body to the desires of the mind. Several studies have demonstrated that the intake of sugar can decrease the activity of orexin cells, which is probably why we want to nap after a carb heavy lunch.
This phenomenon also begins to explain the downward spiral of obesity triggered by [continue]….

The story at-a-glance
>> The first conjugate vaccine, against Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib), was approved for use in the U.S. in 1988, which coincides with a marked increase in reported prevalence of autism spectrum disorders among American children.
>> Researchers hypothesize that the Hib vaccine may be in part responsible for this rise in autism, as conjugate vaccines appear to have a profound impact on neural development. These vaccines “fundamentally change the manner in which the immune systems of infants and young children function,” the authors of a recent study say.
>> According to Barbara Loe Fisher with the NVIC, the “one cause” hypothesis, while convenient, is unlikely to solve the autism problem and may even be counterproductive, as vaccine injury and death can be induced by a number of co-factors, including age, health status, family history, and types and numbers of vaccines given in combination, just to name a few.

During a party, a friend stumbled and took a little fall — she assured everyone that she was fine and just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes. (they offered to call ambulance)
They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food — while she appeared a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening. Ingrid’s husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken to the hospital – (at 6:00pm , Ingrid passed away.)
She had suffered a stroke at the party . Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps Ingrid would be with us today.
Some don’t die. They end up in a helpless, hopeless condition instead. It only takes a minute to read this…
STROKE IDENTIFICATION

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he can totally reverse the effects of a stroke…totally. He said the trick was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.
RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Remember the ’3′ steps, STR . Read and Learn!
Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster.
The stroke victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.
Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple questions :
S * Ask the individual to SMILE ..
T * = TALK. Ask the person to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently) (eg ‘It is sunny out today’).
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS .
If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call the ambulance and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.
NOTE : Another ‘sign’ of a stroke is:
1. Ask the person to ‘stick’ out their tongue.
2. If the tongue is ‘crooked’, if it goes to one side or the other that is also an indication of a stroke.
A prominent cardiologist says if everyone who gets this status shares it; you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
And it could be your own.

Enjoying coffee is more than just a matter of liquid meeting tongue. All five of your senses play a part, some in entirely surprising ways.
by Giorgio Milos
See me. Feel me. Touch me. Hear me.
The Who at its lyrical best. Also, your coffee talking.
The next time you bring cup to lip, think these lines. Why? Because enjoying coffee is more than a matter of taste. All five senses play a part, some in entirely surprising ways.
Coffee is extremely complex chemically and physically, each green bean containing around 500 aromatic and flavor components. And that’s just for starters. Roasting increases that count three-fold, the heat creating entirely new components while also intensifying the elements present prior to roasting.
Length and temperature of the roast ultimately determine how fully the raw bean is transformed. Wine, considered among the most complex and nuanced beverages, has but 300-400 components. In tech terms, coffee is data rich, bursting with sensory information that taste alone can’t process.
Preparation method wields considerable influence over how our senses experience coffee. Espresso sits at one end of the spectrum, its mix of water temperature, pressure, and time producing a highly concentrated, viscous liquid awash in complexity.
At the other end of the range are methods like French press and brewed, which don’t extract coffee as fully as espresso, and as a result don’t carry as much sensory data. In sonic terms, these methods produce more mid-range, less treble and bass.
Experiencing all that coffee has to offer is a two-way street, involving roasting and preparation dynamics on one side, and on the other how attuned our senses are to the data that coffee transmits. If you’ve done a formal wine tasting, you’re probably familiar with this idea. Tasting as applied here is a misnomer, by the way, because it suggests that only one sense is involved.
Here are basics on how our senses work, and the role each plays in processing coffee’s rich data. We’ll go in order of processing speed, fastest to slowest [continue]….

What happened to me a year ago this week was not a “wake-up call.”
It was a heart attack.
For it to have been a wake-up call, the Clothing Fairy would have had to come in while I was sleeping, replacing my wardrobe with things that had an additional X in the sizing.
That didn’t happen. I am the one who made those changes, and somewhere in the process of expanding my wardrobe to match the expansion of my waist line, I should have thought “Hey, rather than spend the money on clothing you hope to someday shrink out of, why don’t you get off your butt and start exercising and dieting now?”
So while I appreciate the kind words of people who over the past 12 months have let me off the hook, there’s no denying that I’m the one who got myself in trouble.
I’m also the one to get myself out of danger in the past 12 months (though the doctors who inserted two stents and the cardiac rehab team get credit for giving me the chance).
I’m healthier than I have been in years. I won’t say how much weight I have lost, but it’s one-and-a-half chins. I have another half-chin to go and, trust me, that’s a lot. My goal for this year was 52 pounds in 52 weeks — mostly because I started the year exactly 52 pounds away from my target — and I was on that pace into July when things slowed; I won’t hit my goal for the year, but I will come close.
Along with letting me off the hook by suggesting my heart attack was a wake-up call, most assume that the changes to my health must have been accompanied by [continue]…

“Fluzone High-Dose” is a new influenza vaccine manufactured by Sanofi Pasteur. The new vaccine was created specifically for seniors, 65 and older.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are quick to reassure seniors that Fluzone is just as safe as regular seasonal flu vaccines. If you read the details on the CDC website, however, you will quickly realize that Fluzone may not be as safe as claimed.
Fluzone appears to cause a lot more side effects, including fevers.
According to the CDC:
“The safety profile of Fluzone High-Dose vaccine is similar to that of regular flu vaccines, although adverse events (which are also reported after regular flu vaccines) were reported more frequently after vaccination with Fluzone High-Dose.
The most common adverse events experienced during clinical studies were mild and temporary and included pain, redness and swelling at the injection site and headache, muscle aches, fever and malaise.”
Why do Seniors Get a Higher Dose Vaccine?
One of the primary differences between the ‘regular’ Fluzone vaccine and Fluzone High-Dose for seniors is that the latter contains four times as much microbial antigen—the lab altered flu viruses – that prompt your body to produce antibodies to the three different influenza strains contained in the flu vaccine.
The idea is that seniors need more [continue]…

Elderly men with naturally higher levels of testosterone may be less likely to suffer a heart attack or stroke than those with lower levels of the hormone, a new study finds.
Researchers found that of 2,400 Swedish men in their 70s and 80s, those with the highest testosterone levels were less likely to have a heart attack or stroke over the next several years than men with the lowest levels.
Of 604 men in the bottom quarter for levels of the “male” hormone at the study’s start, 21 percent had a heart attack, severe chest pain or stroke over roughly five years.
That compared with roughly 16 percent of the 606 men who started out with the highest testosterone levels.
But the findings, reported in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, do not prove that testosterone, itself, deserves the credit.
And it’s too soon to recommend testosterone replacement to try to lower older men’s heart risks, according to Dr. JoAnn E. Manson, chief of preventive medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
“Low testosterone may be a marker of other health conditions that put men at higher risk of cardiovascular disease,” said Manson, who was not involved in the research.
It’s known that any serious health condition can lower testosterone levels, as can obesity.
In this study, the researchers accounted for a number of health factors — including the men’s weight, blood pressure and any diagnoses of diabetes, heart disease or stroke at the outset.
And men in the highest-testosterone group still showed a 30 percent lower risk of heart disease or stroke compared with the other three-quarters of the study group.
But that doesn’t rule out the possibility that something other than testosterone is at work, according to Manson.
What’s needed, she said, is [continue]….
